The Virtual KitchenThe Virtual Kitchen is a comprehensive new e-learning resource for lecturers and students of Professional Cookery at Levels 1, 2 and 3. The Virtual Kitchen will support lecturers in the classroom and help to reinforce theory and underpin knowledge. There is a wealth of unit-specific content for each level, including hundreds of video demonstrations, as well as dedicated theory sections. Key Features include: Over 350 Video demonstrations of key catering techniques which follow industry best practice and are accompanied by audio explanations, talking the learner through each of the chef’s actions. Videos also cover the core units for each level, reinforcing essential health and safety practices Enhancement videos show industry suppliers and professional kitchens at work, taking students ‘out of the classroom’ and providing a complete picture of the catering trade, from Smithfield meat market to a commercial bakery at work, and a goods-receiving area in a large hotel Dedicated theory content covers all the core theory and underpinning knowledge students need. This can be used to support lecturers in the classroom, by providing a visual backup to classroom presentations, with helpful summaries, photographs and diagrams Interactive quizzes enable learners to test their knowledge for each unit and lecturers to analysis and track individual students’ progress Image banks containing hundreds of images, which can be used to identify different commodities, equipment items, food dishes, techniques etc Interactive food map of the UK helping students learn about regional food specialities and where key commodities originate from. The Virtual Kitchen has been developed in association with Bournemouth and Poole College, with video and theory content provided by lecturers at Westminster Kingsway College and West Anglia College.
